Villa Bocelli, Courtyard Kitchen (right) Includes warm natural finishes to create the timeless feel of this Spanish Colonial Kitchen at Bella Collina.  The custom designed faux stone hood set into an arched alcove, was enhanced with hand finished pewter accents. The glazed crackled ceramic tile brick back splash with accents of rojo tumbled stone blends the warm red tones of both the natural granite and the terra cotta clay floors.  A wrought iron electric candle chandelier with pot hooks hangs over the corner chopping block

Award Winning Palazzo del Lago Kitchen (below)

This elegant Chefs kitchen features a walnut chopping block as the center island with a custom designed wrought iron pot rack.  Both reflect the quatrefoil shape of the pecky cypress ceiling. The centerpiece of this kitchen is the custom designed 12' wide stone hood with carved Classical Portobello molding.  This hood is part of the Excalibur Stone Susan Berry Collection.  The fresh colors of the Provincial finish custom cabinets, Rain forest green mosaic marble back splash and exotic Tasmanian Green marble countertops are reminiscent of the colors of fresh herbs

APPLIANCES

· Consumers want to help the environment, but don't want to sacrifice great design

· Adjustable hoods that shift up and down a foot or have built in TV or computer screens.  In Europe hoods are art, much more than ventilation

· Hydraulic, telescoping devices creating or changing counter space...swings on and off the countertop to uncover perhaps a small trash opening;

· Six-foot wide refrigerators, tall thinner refrigerators using vertical space, multiple refrigerator drawers of different sizes spaced throughout the kitchen

· Fully lit pre wired appliance center/cabinet/spot in the kitchen

· High-tech appliances that turned the kitchen into the digital control center of the home

· Scullery areas...separate rooms for active prep space for entertaining and heavy prep and/or clean up. All is hidden.

· Extra large dishwashers like the Dacor 30” that holds 20 place settings and additional dishwasher drawers.   Energy efficiency and water filtration systems.

· More user control details for bio-available nutrients (temperature, humidity, etc.)

· Sliding countertops to conceal glass cook tops

· Inconspicuous appliances that are hidden when not in use.  More hide-a-way designs for juicers, food processors at counter level.

· Luxury outdoor appliances

· Increase in speed. Fewer convection ovens and more gas for speed and energy efficiency.  Induction cook tops.

· Steam ovens that are meant to inspire better eating habits.

COUNTERTOPS, STORAGE & SINKS

· Rounded edged on counters and low-VOC cabinetry in warm woods

· Biomorphic shapes for house ware brands like Alessi

· Curvaceous lines in cabinetry, like the Italian kitchen company Pedini’s rounded designs like the integra island

· Rotating units like the KWC double sink and chopping block

· Circular stations that might feature cooking and seating

· Corners on upper cabinets telescope out;

· Shelving across windows

· Motorized shelves

· Innovative ways to use corners in base cabinetry

· Rails used in backsplash for easy access storage-I've seen this for many years, but it is becoming more popular

· Dish drying cabinet, seen in Europe for a long time - open cabinet set over the sink, drip dries behind closed doors.

· Glass countertops, fused stone, and crackled surfaces

· Sushi-style bars

· Super long pot filers

· Sensory touch faucets

· Increase in speed. Fewer convection ovens and more gas for speed and energy efficiency

· Counters and sinks getting bigger and thicker.

· Trough sinks, super wide, maybe shallow sink

· Morning kitchens...small kitchenettes in other rooms.

COLOUR

· White is hot in Modern, traditional, old world and across the board, in all different shades of white, including glazes, antiques, etc.

· Blue is one of the most popular colors in the kitchen in any shade

· Black is almost as standard a white.  All over black kitchens either distressed or in high gloss.

· Black is also being seen in paint.  People see Black as a traditional color.

· Red in cabinetry and appliances

· Butter yellow and  willow shades of yellow in cabinets and appliances

· Wood finishes - more natural woods...alder, knotty pine, hickory, pecan, mahogany.  It's more about the wood than the stain finish. Much darker woods are popular.

· Appliance colors including reds, teals, greens, purples and yellow by manufacturers including Aga, Viking, and Dacor;

· Appliance Metal finishes are changing to graphite and oil rubbed bronze. It’s no longer all about stainless;

· Stainless Appliances are adding blue tints, green tints and warm tints.

· Small appliances are becoming much more colorful.

· Heather and Purples are very hot now.  The softer purple, the brown, mocha purple, and purple undertones are now popular.
